Harmony Calligraphy: A National Day Tribute

Putrajaya, 30 August 2024 — The Ministry of National Unity organized the Multiracial Harmony Calligraphy Exhibition at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) in conjunction with the Address by the Honourable Prime Minister for the National Day, 2024. This exhibition embodied the belief of the Minister of National Unity YB. Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang that "where there is unity, there is always victory," that showcased diverse calligraphic expressions that highlighted the significance of togetherness and unity in elevating Malaysia on the international stage.
The exhibition, held on 30 August 2024, brought together representatives from diverse communities, that featured Islamic calligraphy (Khat), Chinese calligraphy, and Tamil calligraphy artists who showcased their impressive artworks. Among the participants was Ts. Dr. Velu Perumal from the Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Design and Architecture at Universiti Putra Malaysia, who highlighted the intricate beauty of Tamil calligraphy.
Recognized as a significant cultural artifact, calligraphy serves as a powerful symbol of unity in diversity in Malaysia. Each piece of calligraphy on display—whether Islamic, Chinese, or Tamil—embodied the rich sociocultural heritage of the Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities, respectively. The art of calligraphy, starts from a single point and evolves into lines, letters, and ultimately words and sentences, beautifully illustrates the shared cultural narratives and expressions of the Malaysian people.
The exhibition attracted a large crowd of visitors who were captivated by the elegance and deep meanings embedded within the art of calligraphy, that has remained as a well-established part of the cultural heritage of the nation. This event not only celebrated calligraphy as an indispensable cultural legacy but also reinforced the enduring bonds of friendship and harmony among diverse communities of the nation.
