UPM students emerge runners-up in Sri Aman Lake Landscape Design contest

SERDANG – Three Bachelor of Landscape Design students from the Faculty of Design & Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), emerged runners-up in Sri Aman Lake Landscape Design competition recently.

Muhamad Anuar Anas Zainal, Muhamad Akni Akim Saharudin and Nazirul Syahmi Romlan took home cash of RM2,000 and a participation certificate.

The contest held by Veritas Fund for Excellent (VFE) with the cooperation of Subang Jaya Municipal Council was aimed at beautifying Taman Tasik in Puchong.

Open to students of all local universities, it was held in stages since last October.

Head of team, Muhamad Anuar Anas said the trio participated on their own initiatives to turn the competition into a platform to gauge their ideas and explore new experiences in the field of Landscape Design.

“We submited our proposed design before the closing date in last December.”

“When we were informed that we managed to make it to the finals, we had to make a presentation on last February 15 where we were announced runners-up on the same day.”

“We never expected to have won the second place,” he said.

In the finals, they faced two teams from the International Islamic University (UIA) and Lim Kok Wing University.

“Having qualified for the finals is in itself an accomplishment because this contest was judged by a professional who is the Chief Executive Officer of Veritas Design Group himself, Encik David  Mizan Hashim,” he added. - UPM
